Association for Social Development (ASD) was conceived in July 1987 in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh as an inspiration of Principal Khaleda Habib, a visionary woman, who perceived a crying need for an extended helping hand to less fortunate people around her in her community. She began encouraging her friends to bring non-perishable food items for distributing them among poor people. Besides, she organized her friends to keep response to emergency relief such as warm cloth distribution for cold affected people and foods & tins (For making shades of the houses) for flood & hurricane affected people as well as for the old citizens of the society who are totally deprived of human fundamental needs and ignored & tortured by their families. Consequently, she incorporated Association for Social Development (ASD) as a non-profit, non-political educational based organization and furthermore worked towards obtaining foreign donation to expand its working fields in the community.
